Dawah and Workshop at M-Kids Association

M-Kids Association invited Maison Dawah to an “Atelier des Enfants” on Saturday, November 26, 2022, in a villa in Pereybere. We responded positively, with four colleagues attending the event. We invited the 7-year-old daughter of one of our beneficiaries to accompany us because we thought she would enjoy meeting new children and learning from the talks.

The following topics were addressed by the staff of Maison Dawah:

♢ About Maison Dawah itself and an introduction to Islam, which includes the Oneness of Allah, the fact that Islam is perfect while Muslims are not, and the fact that Jesus is the son of Maryam (virgin Mary) and a prophet of Allah (swt).

♢ The significance and value of Islamic greetings, which include the rewards (Hassanah) we receive when we say ‘Assalamu’alaikum,’ ‘Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullah,’ and ‘Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu.

♢ Lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s (a.s) life [Qurbani] that includes:

– The birth of Ismail (a.s) at a time when his father was above 80 years old.

– Ibrahim (a.s) leaving Ismail (a.s) and his mother Hajar alone in the desert.

– Hajar running between the hills of safa and marwa in search of help and water.

– The reconstruction of the holy Ka’bah and prophet Ibrahim (a.s) obeying the command of Allah (swt) and on the point of sacrificing his beloved son Ismail (a.s).

♢ Importance of water in Islam where it was explained that all living things require water to live. It is Allah’s bounty that we have this vital means of sustenance for which we should be very grateful.

The room was filled with around 16 children alongside two adults from M-Kids. They followed attentively as the hosts presented their respective topics using engaging PowerPoints.

Maison Dawah puts great emphasis on the education of youngsters, especially so as we are required by Islam to “𝐀𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞.” – 𝐀𝐭-𝐓𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐡𝐢, 𝟏𝟎𝟕.

Second Family Dawah on 11 August 2022

Last year, precisely September 2021, Maison Dawah organised a family Dawah in a remote village (Dubreuil) in the district of Moka. The family comprises of a couple with their three children (Grades 3, 4 and 7 respectively). They were provided with spiritual support through some basic Islamic teachings, praying Zuhr in congregation, having a meal together and the distribution of gifts.

This first Family Dawah proved to be successful and fruitful. This year, we decided to pay them a second visit on 11 August 2022.

The program started at 10.40 hrs as follows:

  1. Demonstration of wuzu.
  2. A talk on the importance of salat (prayer) in Islam
  3. Question and answer session – basic questions on Islam prepared for reverts in general.
  4. Azaan. Salaat Zuhr in Jama’at where everybody participated.
  5. Lunch
  6. Tafseer of Surah Ikhlaas.
  7. Talk on Eid-ul-Adha and the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (a.s).
  8. Distribution of gifts to our hosts. Vote of thanks.
  9. Departure at 14:35 hours.

The event was successful and the hosts were attentive and participative during the talks. The husband even expressed his contentment towards us by saying ‘’Mo senti moi heureux kan zott la’’.

Under this note, we can remind ourselves about verse 103 in Surah Ale Imran where Allah (swt) tells us;

‘’Hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. Remember the favor of Allah upon you, when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became brothers by His favor.’’

Dawah and workshop at M-Kids Association

Maison Dawah was invited to an ‘Atelier des enfants’ organised by M-Kids Association on Friday 04th March 2022. The program was held in a villa situated in Cap Malheureux. The audience consisted of approximately 25 people where the majority were non-Muslim children of 9-12 years old.

Imam Arshad Joomun of M-Kids Association initiated the session with a brief comment on Br. Hossen’s journey and achievement towards Dawah and social works. He appreciated the fact that the young generation is taking the lead. Our first speaker, Sameed Damaree, started by explaining the activities of Maison Dawah. Then he focused on a short “Introduction of Islam”. He explained the five pillars of Islam and the six articles of faith. He emphasized the concept of Tawheed all along. The second speaker, Nusayhah Aumeer, seized the opportunity of being a few weeks away from Ramadan and explained about the blessings and benefits of this holy month. Fatemah Jaddoo was then given the floor and she narrated a story based on Luqman’s ten pieces of advice to his son. The children listened carefully. Lastly a quiz/workshop was held, it was facilitated by Muneera Doorga. It was an animated session. Gifts were given to winners during short Q&A sessions all along the program.

The program closed on a good note and staff of both Maison Dawah and M-Kids Association assembled for a group photo.

Family Dawah on 01 September 2021

It concerns a couple with three children living in a remote small village in the district of Moka:

* Father   — Mr. Andy , “electricien” by profession, revert.

* Mother — Mrs. Armand, housewife.

* Three children:

      1. Daughter — Grade 7

      2. Daughter — Grade 4

      3. Son          — Grade 3

In year 2019, Mr. Andy Tek was victim of a severe road accident and he could not work to earn his living. The family found itself in great difficulties, so much so that the children had to stop school, as there was no money for bus transport and school materials etc. Maison Dawah has been helping the family in terms of food aid, psycho counselling, children getting back to school, consultation with psychologist etc.

In this remote village, there are no born-Muslim families at all and there is no madrassah or masjid. So, we at Maison Dawah decided to visit the family, spend a few hours with them, interact with every member and provide them with spiritual support through some basic Islamic teachings, Insha Allah, as follows :

1. We started with a Demonstration of wuzu. It was about 12 o’clock. Please note that there is no tap water in the house, only collected rainwater.

2. A talk and explanations on sura Fateha and salaat etc. (about 20 mins).

3. Azaan. Salaat Zuhr in Jama’at where everybody participated.

4. Lunch (provided by Maison Dawah)

5. 14.00 hours. Talks by sisters from Maison Dawah

       * Teachings on eating and sleeping (5 mins)

       * Teachings on dress code for men and women (4 mins).

       * Cleanliness and ghusl etc. —– for sisters only (12 mins).

6. Distribution of gifts to our hosts. Vote of thanks.

7. Departure at 15.00 hours.

FEEDBACK

1. It was a great opportunity for the family to benefit from practical revisions in performing wuzu, and salaat in Jama’at.

2. All members of the family were very attentive and participative.

3. The children were all very happy and excited with the event.

4. We noted that there was quite a number of shortcomings in various aspects of practising Islam.

5. From the family:

   1. Mr. Andy Tek: “Mo pas ti esperer li pou interessant comme ça”.

   2. Mrs. Anisha and daughter: “Nou pou content si ena encore programme”.

The above testifies to the success of the event, Alhamdulillah.

Launching Ceremony of a booklet“The Status of Women in Sacred Texts

One day workshop and Launching Ceremony of a booklet
“The Status of Women in Sacred Texts”

The event was organized by the Council of Religions (CoR) on Saturday 22 August 2020 at 09.30 hrs at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Moka. Mr. Ahamad Boodoo and Miss Nusayhah Aumeer of Maison Dawah attended.

The event started with a ceremony whereby interfaith prayers were said by representatives of different religious bodies. Mrs. Allia Syed Hossen – Gooljar, initiator of the event, gave an interesting speech which englobes the status of women in various religions. “Les textes sacrés sont des lumières” quoted Father Philippe Goupille, the president of CoR. He was followed by Mr. Vyapoory Paramasivum Pillay, GOSK Former Vice-President of the Republic: “Men and women have distinctive roles. As a mother, she does not only give birth but helps in the spiritual, physical and psychological development of her child. For a father, he is also responsible for cultivating the mind of the child. He is the leader and decision-maker.” Lauching of the booklet “Status of Women in Sacred Texts”, introduced by Mrs. Allia, was done thereafter by Mr. Vyapoory. A vote of thanks by the secretary of CoR, Mr. Bashir Nuckchady, closed this first part of the event.

After a group photo session and tea break, the workshop proper started. Each speaker spoke on the status of women in his/her respective religion notably the Tamil Religion, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, the Bahá’í faith and Christianity. From the different presentations it transpires that all the sacred texts give women a high status in society. In all spheres of life their importance is known – be it as daughters, mothers or wives. Following the interventions, there was a Q&A session and summing up of the event at 15.15 hrs.

Maison Dawah: intercultural meeting in Grand-Baie

The event took place on Saturday, May 18, at the Grand Bay Social Welfare Center. Maison Dawah had planned an intercultural Iftar Gathering in close cooperation with the Nujjoo family from Grand Baie. Around sixty additional compatriots had responded to our invitation. Father Emmanuel (of French nationality) spoke on behalf of Father Philippe Goupille, the Council of Religions’ president. Following the opening remarks, Hossen Kurrimboccus of Maison Dawah presented a PowerPoint presentation on “Islam and Ramadan.” He essentially explained the five pillars of Islam and some facts of fasting during Ramadan. The subsequent interaction session was very lively, and we welcomed questions or comments the feedback was as follows:

  1. Why do Muslim women cover their heads with the hijab?
  2. Why do people choose to wear hijabs?
  3. Father Emmanuel of Grand Baie informed us that several priests in European nations keep a lengthy beard.
  4. A woman inquired as to whether “Assalamu’alaikum ” mean “peace.”
  5. A second woman said that she is a Muslim and a Christian.

Father Emmanuel addressed the audience. He read the written message that Father Goupille had graciously forwarded – a message of fraternity and friendship in the midst of Ramadan. Father Emmanuel expressed his joy at being with us for this multicultural encounter. He was taken aback when he witnessed the brotherly and joyous mood that pervaded the event.

After sunset, the guests were welcomed to have iftar with Maison Dawah’s team. The visitors were then invited to sit and watch their Muslim compatriots do the Maghrib prayer. It was a gracious and amicable atmosphere. Everybody was then invited for dinner and savored a delicious “chicken briani.” The visitors expressed their pleasure at having seen Islam “live” at this gathering.

Maison Dawah organized a “Street Dawah” (public propagation) and a diabetes screening session for the public.

According to Hossen Kurrimboccus, the movement’s organizer, around 75 persons were examined for diabetes. “We had two instances of high blood sugar that we referred to their physicians for a complete medical examination.
